With just two games left, here are six Dallas Cowboys whose time is running out

The Dallas Cowboys started this past Sunday in the basement of the NFC East, fourth place within the NFL’s worst division. By the end of the day, the Cowboys had propelled themselves into second after defeating the San Francisco 49ers, 41-33, while every other divisional foe suffered defeats.

Yet, this series of fortunate events has only increased the Cowboys’ chances of making the playoffs from 1% to just 5%. And Dallas will more than likely simply play its final two games without the hope of a postseason present being under the tree.

This also means a few current Cowboys’ players only have two games left to prove they should stay in Big D despite soon becoming unrestricted free agents. Here are six Cowboys whose time is quickly running out in Dallas …

Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie was extremely unlucky this season. Entering the final year of his rookie deal in Dallas, a big performance in 2020 might have set him up for a massive contract extension with the Cowboys … or elsewhere as a free agent.

Instead, Awuize has played just six games this season due to a lingering hamstring injury and landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list. That lack of availability has cast a shadow on the future of the 25-year old defender, not allowing him to showcase his skills for any potential suitors.

While the fact the Cowboys are scheduled to lose several members of their secondary to free agency next offseason have many believing Awuzie to be a candidate to be re-signed, the new coaching staff in Dallas could just as easily decide to revamp the position with a player they believe is a better fit for their scheme.

Awuzie may very well have two games left to prove he still belongs on the roster. His eight-tackle, two pass deflection performance against the Niners on Sunday was a good start.
