Broncos elevate RB Damarea Crockett, CB Nate...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have elevated running back Damarea Crockett and cornerback Nate Hairston from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, the team announced Saturday.

Under a rule created in 2020, teams may elevate two players from their practice squad to their game-day roster per week. After the game, the players can return to the practice squad without being exposed to waivers. Each player on the practice squad can follow these protocols twice. They may be elevated from the practice squad more times, but beginning with the third time, they must clear waivers to return to the practice squad after each game.

Teams are allowed to dress 48 players to be active for the game, as long as at least eight offensive linemen are active. Teams must announce their inactive players 90 minutes before kickoff.

Crockett could provide additional depth at running back behind the roster’s three players at the position: starter Melvin Gordon III, rookie Javonte Williams and recent pickup Nate McCrary. Veteran back Mike Boone is currently on injured reserve with a quad injury.

Likewise, Hairston potentially adds extra depth to the defensive backfield, which is already one of the deeper positions on the team with players like Kyle Fuller, Ronald Darby, Bryce Callahan and Pat Surtain II leading the way. Hairston also could provide additional help on special teams, if called upon.
