Dak Prescott lands in surprising spot on Chris...

Former NFL quarterback and current analyst for NBC Sports, Chris Simms, has been slowly releasing his list of the top 40 quarterbacks in the league ahead of 2022. Simms is the son of Super Bowl-winning Giants quarterback Phil Simms and is well known for his hot takes and opinions. So, where did Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott land on his top 40 list for this year?

Simms listed Prescott as No. 9 on his list. Here’s the final top 10:

  1. Josh Allen
  2. Patrick Mahomes
  3. Justin Herbert
  4. Joe Burrow
  5. Aaron Rodgers
  6. Matthew Stafford
  7. Russell Wilson
  8. Tom Brady
  9. Dak Prescott
  10. Lamar Jackson

I hope Simms is prepared to get absolutely roasted for ranking Brady eighth, putting Burrow above Rodgers, and many other things. But, as I said, he’s known for his bold takes.

Dak Prescott lands the No. 9 spot in Chris Simms’ list of the top 40 QBs heading into 2022

Simms seems to be a big fan of the Cowboys QB, given he literally referred to him as “my guy” in the breakdown video above. A photo of Simms interviewing the Mississippi State product also happens to be his Twitter banner photo. Adoration aside, what stands out to the analyst about Prescott is his physical and mental toughness.

“Franchise quarterback. Difference maker. Beautiful deep-ball thrower,” the former QB boasted.

When referencing his mobility and ability to get passes off under pressure, Simms said Prescott is “a son of a b**** to deal with.” Although some Dallas fans may not agree, Simms believes that the 28-year-old is very impressive in the pocket and “one of the best” under pressure in the game. The analyst also complimented Prescott’s ability to make throws after contact and escape when the pocket collapses.

To be fair, the former QB did admit that Prescott’s stats were padded by some of the last games of the season, where he and his teammates dominated the Commanders and Eagles. Simms feels that the two things Prescott needs to improve most for next season are his arm strength and having fewer missed throws.

However, on the whole, Simms thinks the QB is careful with the ball and factored Prescott’s multiple injuries into his poorer performance from 2021. In fact, his thoughtfulness with the football is the reason Prescott landed above Jackson on this list. The analyst also believes that with a fully healthy offseason, the Cowboys’ QB can do much more in 2022.

What are your thoughts on Simms’s top 10? Did he get it right?
