Darrell Daniels, Charles Washington Agree To...

The Cardinals continue to build out their offseason roster when they agreed to terms with a pair of their own free agents Thursday.

Tight end Darrell Daniels and safety Charles Washington, who is a key special teams player, both are returning on one-year contracts.

Daniels gives the Cardinals a second tight end with experience on the roster behind Maxx Williams. With Dan Arnold’s departure to Carolina, the Cards are probably still looking for a better receiving target at the position. Daniels had eight catches — his career-high — last season, for 92 yards and his first career touchdown.

Washington, who has been with the team since 2019, played only 40 defensive snaps in 15 games but 256 snaps on special teams. His return seems crucial after the Cardinals lost another key special teams player, wide receiver Trent Sherfield, to the 49ers in free agency.

The Cardinals made big moves earlier in the day, agreeing with free-agent cornerback Malcolm Butler to fill the void left after Patrick Peterson signed with the Vikings, and also supplementing the thin draft-pick cache by dealing center Mason Cole to the Vikings for a sixth-round pick.

The Cardinals could still add a running back and another tight end, and another veteran cornerback wouldn’t be a surprise.
