Ex-New York Giants OL Weston Richburg will retire...

The once promising career of former New York Giants offensive lineman Weston Richburg will soon come to an end.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Richburg intends to retire at the age of 29.

“Yeah, Weston is going to retire,” Shanahan said. “I don’t know how that officially works, but that’s the word that I’ve been told.”

A second-round pick of the Giants in the 2014 NFL draft, Richburg has battled a number of injuries throughout his career. The issues began in 2017 when Richburg missed a number of weeks as the result of a concussion and that trend continued after signing with the 49ers.

Richburg missed another game in 2018 and in 2019, suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 14 and was placed on injured reserve. He was unable to return in time to start the 2020 regular-season and ultimately spent the entire year on the reserve/PUP list.

This past March, Richburg also underwent hip surgery and that ultimately led to his decision to retire.

Over the course of seven-year career, Richburg appeared in 79 games with 78 starts.
