The New England Patriots, usually willing to sit out free agency on the sidelines in most seasons, decided that the best way to improve upon a 7-9 season was to splash the cash in the offseason on both sides of the ball.
The Patriots have already added 10 players in total, as Bill Belichick tried to address the lack of weapons for Cam Newton and poor defensive line depth by hitting the open market hard.
The Patriots haven’t been shy about pledging their future to some of these players, as offensive weapons like Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry have already received multi-year contracts.
The defense, meanwhile, has added studs like Matt Judon while taking a calculated risk on a player like Davon Godchaux after his tenure in Miami.
The new-look Patriots certainly have more teeth on both sides of the ball.
However, as evidenced by the fact that the two teams who have spent the most money in free agency over the last few years are the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, that doesn’t always equate to wins.
Which Patriots signings represent good value and quality? And which deals could come back to bite them in the butt?
