Giants add Daniel Jones replacement in two-round...

The 2022 season is a huge one for Daniel Jones and the Giants. Jones is entering the final year of his contract after New York declined his fifth-year option for the 2023 season, so he’s looking to either earn an extension with the Giants or a new contract elsewhere as a free agent.

If he continues on his current trajectory, the Giants will be in search for his replacement, which is why Luke Easterling of Draft Wire has them selecting a new quarterback in this two-round 2023 mock draft.

At No. 9 overall, he has the Giants taking Washington State quarterback Cam Ward

The Giants declined the fifth-year option on Daniel Jones’ contract, so barring massive improvement from the former top-10 pick this season, the Giants will be looking for his replacement here. Ward looked like he was playing NCAA Football 14 on rookie mode at Incarnate Word, and if he can do anything similar in the Pac-12, he could easily end up warranting a top-10 pick.

Ward transferred from Incarnate Word to Washington State for the 2022 season after dominating at the FCS level last season. He threw for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions in 13 games.

He’s not the biggest quarterback at just 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, but his ceiling is high now that he’s at WSU.

Later in the mock draft, Easterling has the Giants addressing the secondary by taking North Carolina cornerback Tony Grimes at No. 41. Grimes was an All-ACC honorable mention last season and tied for fifth in the conference with nine pass breakups, starting all 13 games.
