Giants, Jets both get shut out of Pro Bowl

No playoff games and now no Pro Bowlers.

The latest way to sum up the sad state of the Giants and Jets is that neither New York team had a player selected to the Pro Bowl when rosters were announced Wednesday night. It’s the second straight year that the Jets will not be represented and the second time in three years that the Giants will not be represented, after cornerback James Bradberry and tight end Evan Engram were honored in 2020.

Giants kicker Graham Gano led the fan voting until last week, when he was passed by Younghoe Koo of the Falcons. Pro Bowl rosters are determined by fan, player and coach voting, all counting for one-third of the formula. The game will be played at 3 p.m. on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas.

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson calls signals during the first quarter of a preseason game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Aug. 14, 2021.

The Jets (3-11) already are eliminated from playoff contention. The Giants (4-10) are expected to be eliminated Sunday. On the bright side, because of trades, they are projected to hold four (two each) of the top-eight picks in the 2022 draft.

The Giants signed defensive backs Dwayne Johnson and Darqueze Dennard to the practice squad. Dennard, 30, is a former first-round pick who hasn’t played in a game this season and was released from the Colts practice squad this week. He could help the Giants as a game-day elevation in a secondary shortened by positive COVID-19 test results.

RB Gary Brightwell (neck) and OG Ben Bredeson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), FB Cullen Gillaspia (shin), DT Austin Johnson (foot), TE Kyle Rudolph (ankle), LT Andrew Thomas (ankle) and DL Leonard Williams (triceps) were estimated as limited participants in the walk-through.
