“Tank for Trevor Lawrence” has been a popular mantra repeated on New York Giants forums over the past few weeks, but it’s not something head coach Joe Judge or the organization are going to do.
Never was that more evident than this past Sunday when they upended the Washington Football Team, earning their first victory of the season.
That win not only catapulted the Giants out of the NFC East basement, but moved them down the 2021 NFL Draft order a bit.
One week removed from being on pace to earn the No. 1 overall pick, the Giants would now pick No. 3 overall if the season were to end today. The New York Jets would pick No. 1 overall with Washington slated in at No. 2 overall.
The Giants are one of 10 teams with one win or fewer through six weeks, and one of 14 teams with two wins or fewer. All four teams in the NFC East fall into the latter category.
Remarkably, the NFC East is so bad that the Giants remain very much alive in their playoff pursuit and will remain focused on going 1-0 each week as a result.
Where the Giants ultimately land in the 2021 NFL Draft order remains to be seen, but it’s very clear there will be no “tanking for Trevor” in East Rutherford. At least not on Big Blue’s side of the stadium.
