Raheem Mostert and the San Francisco 49ers have a favorable matchup this week vs. the Atlanta Falcons, but does it mean Mostert is a must-start in Week 15?
The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a big road win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 15. They have taken back control of the NFC West and have a great opportunity for a 12th win of the season on Sunday when they face the lowly Atlanta Falcons. One key to their success this season has been running back Raheem Mostert, but is a must-start in Week 15 in fantasy football?
The Fantasy Footballers are a little torn on whether it is a great idea to plug-and-play Mostert without thinking about it as a must-start vs. Atlanta. No, this has nothing to do with the Falcons as a football team, but more to do with the bevy of running backs 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has to work with on his roster.
Jason Moore feels really strong about starting Mostert no matter what. He believes that Mostert is the best back on the 49ers roster. With his ability to pull off runs of 10 or more yards, Moore thinks starting him this week is a no-brainer, as he expects Mostert will have more than 12 carries in this game.
As for Andy Holloway and Mike Wright, they aren’t as confident as Moore is in proclaiming Mostert as a must-start for Week 15 vs. the Falcons. Yes, both Holloway and Wright recognize that Mostert is the best running back on the 49ers roster, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worried about Matt Brieda or even Tevin Coleman taking carries from Mostert in this ball game.
Keep in mind that Shanahan’s former team is the Falcons, so he’ll want to devise a strong and complex gameplan to thwart his former head coach Dan Quinn. Using multiple backs in varying ways will be a great way to confuse what already isn’t a great Falcons defense.
Even though Coleman’s touches have evaporated, like Shanahan, he too is a former Falcon. So maybe Shanahan finds a way to give Coleman a few extra touches in somewhat of a revenge game for both. In short, if you’re going to start a 49er running back this week, it has to be Mostert, but this may not be the game he’s going to crush it for you in the fantasy football playoffs.
