Le'Veon Bell clears up Jets future: "Yeah, we...

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell sounds like he expects to be back with the team in 2020.

TMZ caught up with Bell in Miami this week and asked him about his relationship with Jets coach Adam Gase.

“Me and coach Gase had our exit meeting,” Bell told the website. “It was fine, so we straight. Yeah, we good.”

Bell and Gase’s relationship has been under the microscope since the team signed him to a four-year, $54.5 million deal last March. Gase was not in favor of paying a running back that much money, according to sources.

The marriage between Bell and the Jets did not work well in his first year. He averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry and did not have a 100-yard rushing game. That has led to speculation about the Jets trying to trade Bell this offseason, something that seems unlikely because of the $13 million guaranteed he has coming his way this season.

Gase was asked if he wanted to keep Bell on the team on the day after the season.

“He’s under contract for three more years,” Gase said. “You can ask Joe (Douglas) tomorrow.”

The response caused some waves, but seemed to be more about the reporter asking the question than the question itself.

Bell has not commented since, but did not seem bothered by Gase’s remarks.

“Everybody blowing everything out of proportion,” Bell said. “Water under the bridge — we’re fine. We good . . . Jets for four more years unless something drastic changes.”

His contract runs for only three more years and the Jets can escape it after the 2020 season, but it looks like he will be a Jet for one more year.
