Jonah Williams comments on his debut at RT

The reviews for Jonah Williams at right tackle during Week 2 of the preseason were really good.

And now the new right tackle in front of Joe Burrow for the Cincinnati Bengals has commented on that mini-debut, too.

For onlookers, Williams’ comments mesh with what the eye test seemed to show.

“It was good. I thought it went well. I got some live game reps, got some jitters out,” Williams said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Yeah, in practice we go hard. The joint practice was fast. But game speed just feels a little different. In the stadium, feeling the pressure of a game. It was good to get my first right tackle snaps out of the way. I thought the second week was a good time to get the live reps. I don’t have to think about it anymore. We’re about at the halfway point of camp, week two of the preseason. It’s going to keep getting better.”

Long story short, Williams looked comfortable on the field and feels it, too. He’s made seemingly short work of the first position change of his pro career — coming off offseason knee surgery, no less.

Should the first showing for Williams at right tackle snowball into a solid season, the Bengals could have their best-ever line in front of Burrow and a conversation worth happening about what happens with Williams beyond this upcoming final year of his deal.
