Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris confused local media members for team boosters in rookie minicamp.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had the worst rushing offense in the NFL last year, and they feel they found their solution by selecting Alabama’s Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. This weekend, the Steelers hosted their rookie minicamp, just like the rest of the league, and Harris gained some media attention for his one-handed catch.
During a post-practice media session, Harris received his welcome to the NFL moment. When he was asked by a reporter about the catch, Harris was taken aback that the reporter knew about it. Once the media member said that they were watching from the balcony, Harris said that he thought they were team boosters in a hilarious moment.
Steelers: Najee Harris has welcome to the NFL moment at minicamp
Harris now knows that media members are watching from the balcony during practices from here on out.
The Steelers are prepared to go at least one more season with veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger starting under center. They did manage to re-sign wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a one-year deal, so they wanted to bring in a running back who can alleviate the pressure off Roethlisberger’s shoulders. Hence, the selection of Harris.
The Crimson Tide running back is coming off a downright dominant senior season in college. Through 13 games, Harris rushed for 1,466 yards and 26 touchdowns on 253 carries, while catching 43 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns.
Pittsburgh hopes that Harris can put up similar numbers in his rookie season. But an important thing to note is that Pittsburgh’s offensive line took a hit after Alejandro Villanueva signed with the rival Baltimore Ravens in free agency and center Maurkice Pouncey retired.
However the season turns out, Harris is no doubt becoming a fan favorite in Pittsburgh, especially after this funny interaction with the media.
