New York Giants select Micah Parsons in Matt...

The 2020 NFL season is about to begin and there is a ton to read, write and talk about this year but the practice of mock drafts never go out of fashion.

In Bleacher Report’s latest 2021 mock, both the New York Giants and Jets are both back in the top 10, meaning 2020 won’t be much of a football season around here.

Matt Miller has the Jets selecting fifth and the Giants sixth, which would mean the Giants will be picking in the top 10 for the fourth year in a row and for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Miller has Jacksonville picking first and taking Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Not a stretch, we’ve seen that across the board. Washington will pick second again and take NDSU quarterback Trey Lance, meaning he believes Dwayne Haskins is going to bust this year.

In the third spot, Cincinnati will build the wall in front of Joe Burrow with Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell. At No. 4, Carolina gets the quarterback head coach Matt Rhule can mold in Ohio State’s Justin Fields.

The Jets, in the sixth spot, grab All-World LSU wideout Ja’Marr Chase, who many like for the Giants if he is on the board when they pick.

At No. 6, Miller has the Giants selecting Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, a productive playmaker who will be hard for them to pass on. They could take Miami defensive end Gregory Rousseau here, but there are no wrong answers with either player.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman loves linebackers, especially ones who are 6’3″, 245 pounds and running a rumored 40-yard dash of 4.43 seconds. That’s the type of linebacker who will move scouts to the edges of their seats.

An opt-out player for the 2020 season, Parsons produced sophomore tape rich with plays in space that showcase his ability to run down ball-carriers, drop into coverage and impressively rush off the edge. Like a pre-injury Jaylon Smith at Notre Dame, he is a three-down eraser at linebacker.

The Giants are a team with needs along the offensive line and in the secondary, but a playmaker like Parsons will be too tempting for Gettleman to pass up.

True. The Giants are running a 3-4 base this year with Blake Martinez and Devante Downs as their inside backers. Parsons projects to be an upgrade over both players, so this pick will make them a better defense.

Parsons would walk right out onto the field and take charge. Combine him with Martinez in the middle along with outside backers Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines and the Giants finally have a linebacker unit that will create some buzz.
