New York Giants veterans will hold players-only...

The New York Giants are now 2-6 on the season following a Week 8 loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday, and for the first time in years, the players are going to take things into their own hands.

When the team returns to East Rutherford on Monday morning, veterans have mandated that all players attend a players-only meeting to discuss where they’re at at the mid-way point and what they need to do over the final half of the season.

That meeting is not likely to be one for the faint of heart. The Giants, especially on the defensive side of the ball, have played at embarrassing levels more often than not this season and now run the risk of players out-right quitting with very little left to play for.

While it may seem a little late for the players to put their heads together, it’s better than simply sitting on their hands. They could bow out and let the franchise fall into further disrepair, but if they’re genuine and find a way to fix things, they may end up saving some jobs along the way.

It’s unlikely the players-only meeting will yield an unexpectedly successful second half to the season, but perhaps it will create an atmosphere where players feel more comfortable and are able to iron out some of their short-comings.

At this point, what could it hurt?
