OFFICIAL: Chicago Bears sign TE Jesse James

The Bears on Tuesday signed veteran free-agent tight end Jesse James to a one-year contract.

James, 27, has played six NFL seasons with the Steelers (2015-18) and Lions (2019-20), catching 150 passes for 1,460 yards and 11 touchdowns while appearing in 88 games with 54 starts.

James was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2015 draft out of Penn State, where the 6-7, 250-pounder teamed with Bears receiver Allen Robinson II in 2012-13.

Last year with the Lions, James had 14 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns while playing in all 16 games with seven starts. One of his two TDs came on a 9-yard reception in a 34-30 comeback win over the Bears Dec. 6 at Soldier Field.

James’ most productive NFL seasons came in his final two years with the Steelers when he established career highs with 43 receptions in 2017 and 423 yards in 2018.
