Prospect Primer: Devonte Wyatt, DL, Georgia

Packers.com has consulted more than two dozen mock drafts from reputable national outlets and compiled a list of players most frequently mocked as draft selections in the bottom half of the first round (picks 16-32) who would fit Green Bay’s potential roster needs.

Between now and draft day, when the Packers own the No. 22 and 28 overall selections in the first round, those players will be profiled with thumbnail sketches and videos known as “Prospect Primers.”

Devonte Wyatt, DL, Georgia

Key stats: Posted 2 ½ sacks among seven tackles for loss last season with two forced fumbles, while being credited with 27 QB pressures in 14 games.

College honors: Named second-team All-America by the Associated Press and CBS, first-team All-SEC by the league’s coaches.

Background/other info: Over four years with the Bulldogs, Wyatt played in 49 total games, earning his first start in the Sugar Bowl at the end of his sophomore season and then starting 24 games over the last two campaigns. Wyatt was considered somewhat overlooked on Georgia’s loaded defense, and he didn’t generate as much attention as his Bulldogs linemate Jordan Davis, which carried over to the combine. In Indy, the 340-pound Davis ran an incredible 4.78 40-yard dash, but Wyatt’s 4.77 at 304 pounds was impressive in its own right. Prior to the combine, Wyatt reportedly had a strong week at the Senior Bowl that helped solidify his first-round status. A Georgia native, Wyatt spent one season in junior college at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College before joining his home-state team, where he developed into an effective player in the trenches as both a run defender and pass rusher.
