Sam Darnold dealing with new consequence of...

From an enlarged spleen to a ripped toenail, Sam Darnold cannot catch a break.

Darnold had to have his toenail removed Tuesday and will be limited in Wednesday’s practice. Darnold missed three games after contracting mononucleosis, but he isn’t expected to miss game time because of his toenail.

“Sam will do individual drills, we’ll evaluate him after,” coach Adam Gase said prior to practice. “Hoping to get seven-on-seven in, not sure if we’re going to put him in team periods yet. Kind of that toe, we’re just trying to make sure that he’s good, feels good with the shoes that he’s got.

“So we’ll kind of progress as we go through practice. If he ends up getting a ‘Did Not Participate,’ he’ll at least do individual and then we’ll see where he’s at after that.”

The 22-year-old quarterback sustained the injury during Monday’s 33-0 massacre against the Patriots in his second game back from mono. Darnold was seen during ESPN’s broadcast saying he was “seeing ghosts,” adding to his horrendous five-turnover night.
