Seahawks opposing quarterback profile: Rams’ QB...

For the second time in three weeks, the Seahawks find themselves in dire need of a bounce-back win following a loss. This time, it will be against another division rival in the Los Angeles Rams, and their quarterback Jared Goff.

Although he may not be flashy or exciting, Goff is a very competent quarterback who is capable of executing coach Sean McVay’s system to perfection. On the year, Goff has completed 65% of his throws for 2,145 yards and 13 touchdowns against only six interceptions, and has his Rams sitting at 5-3.

Goff does struggle with consistency at times, but for the most part, when he is allowed to get into a rhythm he can be difficult to defend.

The biggest key to knocking Goff out of synch is to disrupt him with consistent pressure. Unfortunately, the Seahawks are not capable of generating the requisite pressure to throw Goff.

In his last four meetings against Seattle, Goff is averaging 331.8 passing yards per game and is 3-1, but could very well be 4-0 if it weren’t for a missed game-winning field goal as time expired in Seattle last year.

Now Goff faces a historically terrible defense, which is allowing an average of 362 passing yards per game.

However, the Seahawks might have two slight advantages they could exploit when it comes to Goff. First off, this year they are performing marginally better against non-mobile quarterbacks like Matt Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Dak Prescott. Goff isn’t an Eli Manning, but he isn’t exactly known for his athleticism, either.

Second, despite his success against Seattle, Goff has been a little careless when it comes to turnovers. In the last four meetings, he has thrown five interceptions. The Seahawks secondary has been atrocious but they have managed to come up with big turnovers.

Unfortunately, the caveat to both “advantages” is the fact two of those immobile quarterbacks still had over 400 yards passing, and when the Seahawks defense isn’t able to get turnovers, things unravel in a hurry.
