Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny was inactive vs. Rams...

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny was a surprise inactive on Saturday in the wild-card contest against the Los Angeles Rams.

Penny was a late addition to the injury report, listed with a knee, although the source of the injury remained a mystery.

Coach Pete Carroll clarified the situation during his postgame press conference.

“He stumbled in practice on Thursday, maybe Friday,” Carroll said of Penny.  “I’m all screwed up in my days. I think it was Thursday’s practice on a normal week, and he hit the ground pretty hard, and it just kind of rocked his knee a little bit.  It was actually the other knee, I think. But he just couldn’t quite get back.

“So, we had Alex ready to go, and jumped him into it.”

Alex Collins had been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the game to provide depth at the position.

Penny played in just three games this season after spending most of the year on the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list.
