SEC football schedule: Conference releases 2024 slate with additions of Texas, Oklahoma

The SEC released its 2024 conference football schedule on Wednesday, giving a full look at what competition will look like during the first year of an expanded 16-team league. The conference welcomes Texas and Oklahoma to the mix as the Longhorns and Sooners reunite with former Big 12 partners Missouri and Texas A&M. The pair won’t get much of a honeymoon before they are tested by the best. 

Texas begins its SEC tenure at home against Mississippi State on Sept. 28. Three weeks later, the Longhorns take on Georgia, led by two-time national champ coach Kirby Smart. However, the game Texas fans may be looking forward to the most takes place at the end of the slate on Nov. 30 as the ‘Horns rekindle their rivalry with Texas A&M on the road in College Station. 

Oklahoma opens SEC play against Tennessee in Week 4 at home but will not return back to Norman, Oklahoma, for nearly a month after following a stretch that includes the Red River Showdown in Dallas. Speaking of home games for the Sooners, they will have none bigger this year the showdown on Nov. 23 when they welcome Alabama to town. 

We also don’t have to wait very long to see what’s considered the game of the year in the SEC. On Saturday, Sept. 28, Georgia will go on the road to face Alabama. After the Crimson Tide upset the Bulldogs in the 2023 SEC Championship Game, essentially stealing their spot in the College Football Playoff as well, Smart and Co. will be out for revenge.
