Week 3 preview and prediction

Like clockwork, the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings are gearing up for yet another showdown. For a fourth consecutive year, and for the eighth time in the last six seasons, these two NFC rivals will once more face off.

This is one of the more lopsided rivalries in the NFL. The Seahawks are currently enjoying a 7-game win streak versus the Vikings dating back to 2012. The last time Minnesota proved triumphant was all the way back in 2009 when Brett Favre was still their quarterback.

Since then, Seattle has outright dominated the series. However, in recent years they have been playing with fire when it comes to Minnesota. Each time, the Vikings get a little closer to upsetting them. In the last three meetings, the scores have gotten closer – from 21-7 to 37-30, and most recently 27-26 (where Minnesota led 13-0 at half).

The Vikings are also better than their record suggests. They’re 0-2 heading into Week 3 but could easily be 2-0. In Week 1, running back Dalvin Cook had a rare fumble deep in Cincinnati territory as the Vikings were driving for an overtime win. Last week against the Cardinals, the Vikings missed a 37-yard field goal as time expired to lose on the road 34-33.

Prediction: Seahawks over Vikings 31-28

The Seahawks may be feeling pressure after blowing it to the Titans, but the Vikings are desperate to not fall to 0-3. Minnesota knows Seattle as well as any division opponent, and always gives the Seahawks a tough fight.

The difference here is just like with Carson Wentz, I can’t pick Cousins’ Vikings to beat Seattle until I actually see it happen. Expect another close showdown, but with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks finding yet another way to win late.

With the rest of the NFC West sitting at 2-0, the Seahawks find themselves in a must-win scenario already against a beatable opponent.

Side bar – this will be the first regular season game the Seahawks have played at US Bank Stadium, and their first visit to Minneapolis since their 10-9 Wild Card victory.
