Where does Daniel Jones land?

It’s the season for rankings in the NFL and fans who are not vacationing or getting ready for the upcoming season are trying to sort out where their teams — and their players — stand this year.

When it comes to the New York Giants, the rankings and predictions are all over the map, especially when it comes to fifth-year quarterback Daniel Jones.

Jones was inked to a four-year, $160 million extension this offseason which has led to much debate among pundits as to the worthiness of such a deal.

In a recent ranking of the league’s quarterbacks by Pro Football Network, Jones was ranked 13th out of 32, landing at the top of tier 4, or the ‘useful but limited’ category, and just outside the ‘above average’ group.

Although each QB is ranked numerically, what’s more important are the tiers they’re in. The gap between Tier 3 and Tier 4 is massive. However, Daniel Jones and a few others in Tier 4 could eventually find themselves elevating their level of play enough to make the leap.

Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka got off to a great start with Daniel Jones in New York, despite a complete lack of firepower on the outside. Jones began using his leg in a similar fashion to how we saw Allen operate in Buffalo while Daboll called plays. Added weapons and continuity in coaching could propel Jones forward.

It’s a fair assessment given Jones’ past performance. His statistical performance as a passer has been lukewarm and his value is calculated mainly on his total package, much of which leans on his ability to run.

Plus, last year was Jones’ first winning season with the Giants. Many experts want to see if he can repeat that feat this season. If so, he’s likely to keep climbing the charts.
