Packers outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith claims that Tom Brady stole away their Super Bowl chances after their brutal NFC Championship loss.
This season, Tom Brady will have played all 32 NFL teams and won Super Bowls in both conferences — and he’s created quite a few enemies along the way.
Packers linebacker Za’Darius Smith now joins the ranks of those who curse Tom Brady, telling NFL Films he hates him for stealing his chance at a Super Bowl.
Truthfully, Smith admires his NFC rival, detailing how difficult he was to face during the 2020 NFC Championship in Green Bay this January.
“I can say, man, he’s a great quarterback,” Smith told NFL Films during Brady’s NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2021 video.
“He could tell where we were blitzing from; he already knew where our mike was and where he was going in the flat. For him to do that, I feel like he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league, the best to ever do it, and they basically stole our chance to go to the Super Bowl.”
“He stole it…away from us,” Smith said jokingly. “I hate you, Tom Brady.”
All jokes aside, Smith may be right: the Packers entered the playoffs as the top NFC seed led by 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers. All season, Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams connected for a stellar campaign that produced over 1,300 air yards and 18 touchdowns. The team finished the season 13-3, defeating the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional around before losing to the wild-card Buccaneers 26-31.
While Smith may not have a ring this year, he and his teammates were widely recognized by fellow players for their incredible season. Smith was one of seven Packers who made the Pro Bowl, and both Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers outranked Brady on the annual NFL 100 list.
